Arsenal 3 -1 Chelsea

In a thrilling match against their beleaguered London rivals Chelsea, Arsenal bounced back in style after four winless games to secure a 3-1 victory and claim the top spot in the Premier League, at least for the next 24 hours. It was a night to remember for Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard who scored two goals, with Gabriel Jesus wrapping up the points before half-time. On the other hand, it was a night to forget for Chelsea interim boss Frank Lampard, whose team lost their sixth successive game.

Although recalled Noni Madueke managed to hit a rare consolation goal for Chelsea, it was not enough to save them from their sixth defeat in their last seven meetings with Arsenal. While it was a glorious night for Arsenal skipper Odegaard, his predecessor Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang started for Chelsea for the first time since facing Arsenal on November 6. However, he lasted only 45 minutes before being substituted.

Despite a four-game winless run that culminated in a galling defeat to rivals City the previous week, Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta refused to rule his side out of the title race. His faith in his team paid off as this victory took them back to the summit, two points clear of City, but having played two games more.

The match was off to a lively start, with Granit Xhaka having an early chance, but his close-range strike was saved by Kepa Arrizabalaga. It was followed by a header from Bukayo Saka, which Kepa palmed away. However, shortly after, Arsenal broke the deadlock, with Odegaard scoring a superb goal from a Xhaka cross. The same pair combined again for the second goal, with Odegaard scoring his 14th goal of the season.

The victory was a testament to Arteta’s faith in his team, who stood firm and showed resilience when it mattered. With City in fine form, the title race is far from over, but Arsenal has demonstrated that they are not to be underestimated. This win will give them a much-needed confidence boost as they continue to fight for the top spot.
