Nigerian chef Hilda Effiong Bassey, also known as Hilda Baci, has broken the current Guinness World Record for the "longest cooking marathon by an individual." Bassey cooked for 87 hours and 50 minutes, surpassing the previous record of 87 hours and 45 minutes held by Indian chef Lata Tondon.

Bassey began her cooking marathon on Thursday at 4 p.m. by turning on her cooker, and accomplished the feat on Monday morning at Amore Gardens in Lekki, Lagos State. She will need to undergo a verification process by the Guinness World Records team to be officially certified as the new record holder.

Despite exhaustion, Bassey received support from Nigerians, including several celebrities, who cheered her on throughout the competition. Bassey won the maiden edition of the Jollof Face-off Competition in 2021, receiving a grand prize of $5000.

The Guinness Book of Records is a well-known reference book containing human and natural world records, with individuals or groups needing to provide evidence and undergo a verification process to qualify for a world record listing.
